The first week of DS57 is complete and I cannot emphasize enough how great it felt to join The Information Lab (TIL). The foundations of a company are its people; everything else is built from that. So if you truly want to get to know a company what is the best way?
If you guessed meet people you would be (partially) correct. It is one thing to meet people but from my experience really building positive relationships as early as possible and with as many people as possible is key. If you are thinking of joining TIL one of the first things you should know is that everyone is super friendly and everyone is super sociable...and that is part of why the company works so well.
Many months before I had even joined or interviewed I set about getting to know the company (the people). Meet and greet events are held every few months and offer a great opportunity to not only learn about the application process and get an insight into some of the work you could be doing, but also the chance to get chatting to people within the company. Once I got the job offer (an amazing feeling) I was invited to a number of events and parties hosted by TIL. My advice is if you can go, then go! It was so nice to meet the wider team, other successful applicants and also my future Data School cohort. By the time it came to my first day I felt suspiciously relaxed. I say suspiciously because starting a new job can be daunting, and this was my first corporate job so the first day is MASSIVE. I quickly realised the reason I felt so relaxed is because I had built those connections early, and so familiar and friendly faces were around the second I stepped through the door (quite literally!).
So with that I will conclude my first blog post and leave some simple advice.
Meet, greet, repeat...
