Harvey Lloyd-Smith

Tableau | Alteryx | Power BI | SQL | Python

Harvey’s professional work began as a customer service and gateline assistant at busy London railway stations. This has given him a first-hand experience of dealing with high pressure situations and knows the importance of communicating effectively. In addition to this Harvey has worked closely with a transport consultancy. Through this work he was instrumental in conducting audits and reports to help improve the overall customer experience on transport networks across the UK.

His interest in data developed rapidly whilst undertaking a Masters in Astrophysics at Royal Holloway, enabling him to bring a scientific based approach to a range of data problems. He was integral to a project on a technique known as aperture photometry which is a method of measuring the distance and age to stars. Through this work, Harvey developed a Python routine which could automate the star detection and brightness measurement process, enabling the efficient analysis of astronomical images.

Today, Harvey’s work at The Information Lab covers many aspects of the data analytics process. He successfully led an internal company project aimed at analysing and visualising AI survey data on Tableau – the results of which will be used by the senior leadership team to make more informed decisions relating to company AI usage. He has also worked closely with clients in the sports industry – leveraging both Python and Tableau to extract and visualise data.

Outside of education and professional work Harvey can be found bouldering at climbing gyms, playing the electric guitar and photography.
