Analytics Pipeline - How a Viz is born

It's day 2 at The Data School and we've followed the creation of a viz - from its origin in raw data all the way through to a published visualization. The process of preparing, analysing and presenting data is called the Analytics Pipeline.

RAW DATA This can come from many different sources, which include Excel files, text files (.csv) or databases. Raw data is stored locally or in cloud shared drives.

REPORTING DATA Tableau Prep, Alteryx, SQL or some other data prepapration software is used to combine and cleanse the data so that it is ready to analyse. Incorrect and duplicate data is removed, and data may need restructuring or reformatting.

DATA SOURCES Data sources are published to Tableau Desktop once they are cleansed and ready to use.

VISUALIZATIONS Vizzes are made using the published data source, and can be shared on Tableau Server for others to see.
