Doughnuts and Data

As we come to the end of Day 2 of DS39, its a quick chance to reflect on the very beginning of a new journey. The first two days have been relaxed as we settle in to our new environment at Watling Street, and get to know one another on the cohort, our coaches, and our peers who are further along on their Data School journey.

Day 1 started with intro's and swiftly into the setup of our laptops and software licenses, as well as the business tools we need for the next 28 months. Thank you to Craig Bloodworth (CTO) who patiently ran through everything across the morning, working up an appetite that led us to a solid Katsu Curry for lunch. We spoke with Algirdas and Gerda about their experiences in the afternoon before being thrown into our first MakeOver Monday; a 1-hour session to visualise a dataset and share it to our Tableau Public, regardless of our progression! The day ended with a small social on the first floor, meeting with other Data Schoolers - the people and culture at The Information Lab is amazing and super welcoming.

Our second day started with a focus on Modern Analytics Architecture. We worked through examples of how traditional and modern businesses operate, key aspects to understand, and how this will impact our roles as we embed within different organisations. The Modern Analytics Pipeline was a key topic, identifying each aspect of the analytics pipeline from Raw Data to Visualising Data. We each spent time identifying the pipeline's of varied businesses, before individually presenting back to the group - something that will be very common place over the coming months. A non-technical highlight of this session was definitely the shared box of doughnuts, bought in by Sam Shurmer who will soon be coaching in New York! 🗽

Tomorrow we start with Tableau Prep Fundamentals. For now... table tennis! 🏓
