As we have reached the last day of the week it was time for our first Friday (Thursday) Project! This weeks task was to prepare a 10 minute presentation on a Tableau prep tool in pairs, and my colleague and I were tasked with explaining the Clean step process.
We began by outlining the importance of cleaning data for analysis. A common problem in the real world when working with clients is that lots of data is manually inputted which makes it very likely that the dataset will include mistakes. The entire dataset needs to be consistent, complete, and properly formatted to make analysis as effective as possible. The Clean step in Tableau Prep aims to solve this problem.
With multiple tools available such as grouping, splitting fields, filtering and many more, the Clean step allows us to prepare our data exactly exactly how we want to. This ensures that we can conduct our analysis and find the answers that we are looking for. For example, if city names are spelt incorrectly and thus being represented as different observations in a dataset we can use the grouping tool to find the most appropriate match for the incorrect entries and ensure the data in consistent.
We are about to present to some of our coaches for the first time, let's hope it goes well!
