Use Parameters to swap multiple Sheets on a Dashboard

To easily swap between different Sheets on a Dashboard you can use a Parameter action. In this article I will explain how this can be done.

Parameter Swap for Sheets in a Dashboard

To be able to do this you need to follow four simple and easy steps:

1.       Create a Parameter

2.       Create a Calculated Field with the Parameter in it

3.       Add the Calculated Field to the Filters Pane

4.       Add the Sheets and the Parameter to the Dashboard

First you want to create a Parameter by right clicking on the Data Pane. You need to set the Data Type to String and select “Allowable Values” as List and type in the names of the sheets you want to swap between.

Then you simply create a Calculated Field by right clicking on the Data Pane and give the Calculated Field a desired name and just drag and drop or write the name of the Parameter into the Calculated Field area.

Afterwards add the Calculated Field to the Filters Pane to be able to use it as a switch button on the Dashboard.

Finally create the Dashboard and put the Sheets you want to display into a Container. Hide the Titles and show the Parameter.

To show the Selected Parameter in a Text Field you can add a Text Field to the Dashboard and insert the Parameter as a Text above the visualisation on your Dashboard (which you have typed into the Parameter under “Display as” at Step 1).

Apply the finishing formatting touches and your Dashboards should be ready to go.
