Permissions on Server

When using tableau server to upload a site and create folders for different teams in a company. You may want to set permissions on those folders to allow a select few to act as creators or explorers & publishers or viewers.

The easiest way to set permissions to allow people to do what their licensing allows them to is, to allow All to be creator and let the licensing do the filtering for you.

E.g

Step 1: create your required folders and go to the Permissions editor

Step 2: Create appropriate groups and assign them roles

Step 3: Add desired groups and assign All user alongside all other groups the 'None' option in template on projects.

Step 4: Then Assign your desired groups as administers. this will allow all to have access to everything but will only allow each user to do as much as their license allows.

This means those with a viewing license will be restricted. The image bellow shows an example of Tableau software having the administrative permission, however they still wont be able to do what an administrator can do as they don't have the licensing for it as it shows with the red X's.

For a more detailed look at what what permissions are and how else you can use them in tableau server please refer to Bethany Fox.
