Set Tableau Server Permissions When Publishing A Workbook

Tableau permissions specify what you can and cannot do on the Tableau Server. It allows you to select who is able to interact with the workbook or download a copy of a data source. There are two ways to set permissions on Tableau Server: 1. When publishing a workbook; 2. When setting permissions on the server. In this blog I will show you how to set permissions using the first methods, when publishing a workbook.

Setting Permissions When Publishing A Workbook

Step 1

At the top of your Tableau workbook window go to Server tab and make sure you are singed into the server you want to publish to.

Step 2

Select  “Publish Workbook” and specify which project you want it to be published to, as well as the name for the workbook.

Step 3

Towards the bottom of the window click “Edit” under the “Permissions” section and a new pop up window will appear.

Step 4

Click “Add…” and you will be able to set the permissions you wish individual users or groups to have.

If you want to know more about what permissions you can set up in this pop up window you can find more information here: https://help.tableau.com/current/server/en-us/permissions.htm
