Its week 3 of our data school and this week is focused on Alteryx with Friday booked out on the calendar as 'Alteryx core cert'. As you can imagine the thought of the 'exam' looms large but I just wanted to write this blog documenting the week for future data schoolers in the hopes that some of the things I mention might be of use or if not at least I can look back on my progress in the future.
First things first we've had 2 sessions in week 1 covering the basic tools in Alteryx so going into this week covering the gap to go from the very basic knowledge we have now to passing the core certification seems like a large void to cover.
Having completed another day and a half of training we've covered 4 new tools: The cross - tab/ transpose tools and the multi-field and multi-row formula tools.
I just wanted to share a tip which got my head around the transpose and cross tab tools.
Remember what columns the rest of the data pivots around!
When your using the respective tools you'll be faced with the panes below
The key columns and group by data drop downs are essentially asking what column stays the same so that the rest of the data pivots around it. You can see in the diagram above how the data moves around the blue squares. Once I visualize this diagram figuring out what to tick and untick in the options panes become quite straights forward.
Hopefully this helps and I will continue to update you guys on how the preparation to the core certification goes.
