First WOW - Workout Wednesday

Through last week's session with Ruth, which introduced us to the world of drill downs and tableau actions, I got to work on my first Workout Wednesday task today. I picked the task from week 30 "Can you create a drill down using set actions?" (https://www.workout-wednesday.com/2020/07/21/2020w30/) .

First, I logged into data.world for it to get the superstore data. (Actually, those are always included in the Tableau repository as a sample dataset, but when I noticed I was getting different numbers on my first try, I wanted to be on the safe side) A description of where to find the data you're supposed to use for the WOW for download is always in the assignment, as well as a brief introduction and requirements for the dashboard.

To create the requested drill down in the scatterplot, a set must first be created via State, because the action is set via the State Set.

In the configuration window that now appears, simply select all states and click on okay without changing any other settings. After this step has been done, a new field can now be calculated in the next step, since the set is used here.

The calculated field now controls the State level to the City level, since it is activated by the generated set.
To create an action here that also activates this field, the Worksheets field must be clicked in the toolbar (directly under the Workbook name) and then Actions:

Under the options of the Actions, Add Action has to be clicked with Change Set Values.... A new window appears in which the action is defined. Here it is important that the correct target set is selected from previously generated sets (here: State Set).

The action should assign values to the set when it is activated by Select and add all values back to the set when it is no longer activated. Therefore the remaining fields have to be checked.

Now the Action works, but all Cities for selected States are displayed. A filter is still missing. For this a new calculated field "show/hide State Field" is created, which is simply dummy coded. A fixed maximum value of the State Set is displayed and nothing else under the condition that it is the same as the content of the set. If 1 is true, the values should be shown, otherwise not.

As this field is dragged into the filter and only SHOW is selected, only Cities that belong to the respective State are displayed. And this is how the drill down works in the scatterplot. If you want, you can display the set on the side, then you can see how the fields selected in the graphic are activated in the set.
