My first workout

When talking about workouts, you may be thinking sweat and struggle. And you would be absolutely correct to think that. As we sat, attempting to recreate Workout Wednesday (WOW) 2020 week 53, I wondered if I would rather be in the gym, pushing a PB. We were pushing every inch of our cognitive capabilities to squeeze 4 BAN charts, and 3 line charts and various titles into 6 containers.

After help from another member of DS32, I was able to finally contain the beast (i.e. the sheets).

I spent most of my time trying to organise the BANs. I had originally constructed the numbers in 4 separate sheets. The obvious problem is that separate sheets is to display them in a dashboard, side-by-side, it would need a horizontal container. However, the charts below necessitated a separate horizontal container with their own embedded vertical containers. So, this would put us at one too many containers. I was stuck here for longer than I care to admit and it was only when I asked for help that I was able to fulfill the 6 container limit of the challenge.

It was a relatively simple challenge, but it did cement what we were taught that day by DS coach and container extraordinaire, Lorna. The expended blood, sweat and tears on this workout were worth finally understanding the magic of containers and well formatted Tableau Dashboards. I enjoyed it so much, I also did WOW 2018 week 51. I would recommend WOW for anyone trying to build technical skills in tableau.

TLDR (really? it was 4 paragraphs this time!): I did Workout Wednesday 2020 Week 53 and learnt how to make sheets to fit a specific amount of containers in a dashboard.
