Once meeting me, I think you can tell: I have a calling to the big stage. Per my knack for the dramatic and flair, I naturally signed up for a meet and greet presentation when there was an opening. Of course, this was all to hone my skills as an attention seeker. Maha, my co-presenter, however, had far more noble intentions. She wanted to brave her fears and help the new generation of potential DS'ers.
Regardless of our intentions, we came together like butter and toast. We ran through the presentation a few times before the event and planned how we would have a back-and-forth to keep the punters engaged. What resulted was basically a comedy act, rivalling the likes of Moss and Roy. We spoke about the step by step process of the application and gave hints, tips and tidbits. During networking time, the questions from potential candidates were flowing freely.
The evening then had demonstrations of both Alteryx and Tableau by Carlo and Burcu, who received audible oo's and ah's from the crowd. And finally topped off by pizza and drinks.
It was a great recap of what Maha and I had gone through only a short few months ago to get into the Data School, as well as good experience in presenting to a big crowd of strangers. I must say, I had fun planning and delivering with Maha.
TLDR: Maha and I did a presentation on the application process at a Data School Meet and Greet. It went well.
