The Happy American Dream

Today was the final day of dashboard week. The topic was based on the world happines report and I decided to take the opportunity to compare the two americas, Canada and the USA.

I decided to make this dashboard a small multiple without the need of axis headers. However, as there was 18 year to account for in the x-axis, it ended up being a multiple-wide dashboard.

A few tips when doing small multiples:

  • If your measures are of different units, specify the units in the title or tooltips
  • Minimise your axis and try to start from the lowest occuring number. You can do this by unticking include zero in the chart settings
  • Organise each chart next to other more appropriate charts. For example, group objective data with other objective data. The same can be said for subjective data
