Before beginning any data project, it is important to understand the approach we take to forming a visulisation from the raw data. We spent day 2 exploring what software are out there and how they communicate with each other to form a data story.
There are several ways of story-telling the raw data which companies accumulate overtime. Our project for today was how a typical company may accumulate, store, clean and visualize that data. Some companies may follow the traditional approach and work through a waterfall development, working on one stage at a time. Though this may ensure accuracy, it mostly takes vast amounts of time and can be unproductive.
We therefore looked towards implementing an agile approach, where we can identify the core issues across the different stages of the pipeline. This not only save time but also facilitates redesigning the method of analysis when encountering an issue. The downside to the agile approach is that it takes traditional companies out of their comfort zone.
Tip: Though you may be a pro in a handful of software, Try to have a general understanding of the function, advantages and popularity of each one. This is so you can understand the prior stages your current dataset has gone through before it reached you.
