The Information Lab Celebrates Milestone as NYC’s first Registered Data Analyst Apprenticeship Sponsor - Event Highlights the Program’s Role in Shaping Careers in Data Analytics
New York, NY — January 8, 2025 — The Information Lab, a global leader in data analytics and visualization consulting, proudly hosted a kickoff event to celebrate its designation as the first registered Data Analyst apprenticeship in New York City, certified by the New York State Department of Labor. This milestone formalizes The Information Lab’s innovative training initiative, The Data School, as a registered apprenticeship, creating new pathways for New Yorkers to enter and advance in the dynamic field of data analytics.
The event underscored the company’s alignment with the “earn and learn” model of workforce development, combining hands-on client projects, expert instruction in tools like Tableau and Alteryx, and dedicated mentorship. This structured approach equips participants with the skills needed to excel in high-demand data roles while fostering long-term career success.
“Our certification as a registered apprenticeship sponsor marks a transformative step in our commitment to workforce development,” said Toby Sharpe, Managing Director of The Information Lab US. “By adapting The Data School’s proven training model to an apprenticeship framework, we’re providing participants with an unparalleled opportunity to build expertise while contributing to New York City’s ambitious goal of creating 30,000 apprenticeships by 2030. This is not just a celebration for The Information Lab—it’s a milestone for the future of the data analytics workforce.”
The kickoff event featured remarks from New York State Commissioner of Labor, Roberta Reardon, Executive Director of New York City Mayor’s Office of Talent and Workforce Development, Abby Jo Sigal, and Executive Vice President of New York City Economic Development Corporation, Jon Schulhof.
“I applaud The Information Lab for sponsoring New York City’s first Data Analyst Registered Apprenticeship program,” said New York State Department of Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon. “Through registered apprenticeships, New Yorkers gain the skills they need to thrive in successful careers while also giving them the ability to bring home a paycheck to support themselves and their families. Expanding registered apprenticeships in the tech sector is a major step forward in creating opportunities in the careers shaping the future of our economy and is another example of Governor Hochul’s commitment to make New York an affordable, inclusive, state of opportunity for all.”
“NYC Talent is thrilled to see the growing success of The Information Lab and its commitment to using the apprenticeship model to build the digital workforce and contribute to the moonshot goal of 30,000 apprenticeships by 2030," said Abby Jo Sigal, Executive Director of the NYC Mayor’s Office of Talent and Workforce Development. "Apprenticeship provides jobseekers with economic mobility, employers a diverse talent pipeline, and in today’s rapidly changing economy, real-time responsiveness, all of which are critical to the City’s growth and prosperity.”
“The Information Lab has been a foundational tech workforce training partner at Civic Hall since 2023, bringing incredible energy and opportunity to our community,” said Jim Malatras, Managing Director of Civic Hall. “Their Data School program has been transformative, opening doors to high-wage sustainable technology careers to countless individuals. We look forward to continuing to build this impactful partnership for years to come.”
“The Information Lab’s designation as one of the first registered Data Analyst Apprenticeships in the state marks a key moment in strengthening an equitable talent pipeline for New York City’s economy,” said New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) President & CEO Andrew Kimball. ”Their consultant training program, The Data School, which is housed within Civic Hall - The Bernard Goldstein Center, is bridging the gap between education and industry, equipping New Yorkers with paid apprenticeships to gain the skills and experience needed to excel in high-demand data careers.”
