Today was the first day of our Dashboard Week and our exciting task was to create our CV as a dashboard. I would like to share my thoughts and results with you in this post.
Process
At the beginning of our task, I looked for inspiration from Tableau public, as there are already a wide variety of CV visualisations. Personally, I was particularly inspired by the CVs of Marjorie Managuelod and Jaume Pérez. Then I used my LinkedIN profile to create the most important data for my CV in an Excel sheet, as you can see here:
I have differentiated between my experiences in the categories of work, education and voluntary work so that I can filter them more easily in Tableau. In addition, it was also important for me to include a description of my work in order to provide a better insight into my working experiences.
Afterwards I created an initial sketch in Excalidraw to define the layout of my dashboard. This is important because it made it much easier to create my dashboard template in Tableau.
Finally, I brought everything together in Tableau as planned. Even if it is not visible, I have worked with a parameter action and dynamic zone visibilty here so that it is possible to click on the bars in the gantt chart and then read the description of my tasks and working experiences. In addition, I have linked the icons, such as Linkedin or Tableau Public, so that the user can go directly to the pages of my public profiles. My final dashboard (click here for Tableau Public) looks like this:
Review
Overall, I am very happy with my result as I was able to realise everything I had planned for the day. Of course, there is still room for improvement. For example, I received feedback that it would be more userfriendly if I include a hint that it is possible to click on the icons in the top right-hand corner. I aim to improve my result in the following weeks.
