For our final dashboard week challenge, we were given free reign to create an infographic style dashboard using an IMDb data set. We could choose one of the following options:
- Focusing on a specific actor’s career
- Focusing on one TV series
- Focusing on a studio
- Focusing on a particular genre of TV shows
- Comparing actors/series/studios/genres
Or choose our own topic. I immediately knew I wanted to focus on Brooklyn Nine-Nine as it's one of my favourite shows of all time. So I began by thinking, as a fan, what type of niche things would I want to see on an infographic about B99 - so I got to brainstorming.

Once I got all of my ideas down, I started some data exploration to see what I could actually accomplish, and what data will I need to go out and look for. From the IMDb dataset, these are the only fields that were relevant to me.

So I went hunting down the deep sides of the internet (Reddit and Wikipedia), and so I was able to find some of what I needed.
Data to do with awards was easily accessible from Wikipedia. All I had to do was load in the table to Excel, clean it up a little bit, and connect to it in Tableau.

Finding the lines spoken in the show was tricker than I though - but good ole reliable Reddit had a superfan who had apparently tracked each line a character spoke all the way to season 3. I cheated a little bit here and just divided the total amount of seasons (8) by 3, to get 2.6, then multiplied each character's number by 2.6 to get an estimate of their lines spoken throughout the show.

After acquiring all the data, I began sketching my ideas out, and the TLDR of it all is that although my sketches were cool in theory, after seeing them in Tableau - it looked awful.

So I decided to cut my losses short and go back to the drawing board. That's where I decided to go for a corkboard design, as so:

I felt like this embodies the B99 theme very well, and it translated much better to Tableau.

And this is it. My final day of training! I look forward to seeing what the rest of my adventure at TIL brings 😄.
