For our Friday project this week we were partnered up with a member of the Data School Germany team and were given the challenge of analysing a Covid related dataset and presenting our dashboard of findings together over zoom. This was a huge challenge as it was completely different to anything we had done before and we had the added task of communicating and scheduling regular zoom calls with our partner to discuss our approach.
My partner and I worked very well together and I was very happy with how our dashboard looked and presentation went. We had an initial call to discuss our plan for our dashboard, from there we each produced two charts and then we built the dashboard together over zoom.
The main challenges I faced during this project was trying to make the dashboard consistent with regards to the font, colour, size and formatting of each chart, so that it looks like it was produced by one person. Another aspect I found difficult was trying to explain my vision of how I thought the worksheets would look good together on the dashboard. Often when I am building a dashboard I play around with where the worksheets could go, but building the dashboard with a partner over zoom made this more difficult to experiment.
Overall, I enjoyed this task and it definitely challenged my communication skills, whilst also implementing the new Tableau skills we had learnt throughout the week. I think our approach was well planned out and we each knew exactly what needed to be done. This also helped us manage our time well and allowed us to practice our presentations beforehand which is very important.
