So you've just got into the final stage of interviews for the data school, congrats! You have probably spent hours and hours on your dashboard and now wondering how to begin preparing for the interview presentation. So here are my key tips.
Firstly, it is important to understand that although your dashboard is probably your key focus, the way you present it is very important. The first thing to figure out is which question you are answering. When you know what questions you can start planning your presentation. Think of the dashboard as a story that you are telling, take your audience through the key insights and relate it back to your questions. You should assume that the interviewer has not seen your viz before, so make sure you point out any key trends and insights that you have discovered in your data analysis.
The presentation should be around 5 mins long so make sure you only discuss key insights and relevant information. Although this can be tough, practice is key! Practice to anyone that does not know very much about the subject so you can make sure you are explaining the subject as clearly as possible.
Finally, make sure you consider any limitations of your visualization as your interviewers are likely to raise issues with your dashboard and it will be helpful to be prepared for any criticism. Even so, make sure to take any feedback on board without letting this impact you negatively, the team want to see how you respond to their critiques.
Good Luck!
