This week has been focused around Tableau and also taking a deeper look into what makes a good viz. There are many things that should be considered, just to name a few:
- Choosing the right chart types
- Formatting
- Colours
And many more... in short, we should try to keep things simple.
For this weeks project I chose to look at the London Bike Collisions data set - you can find the viz here.
My first impression of this viz was that it must be aimed towards avid cyclists - it appears that the author of this has made sure to include everything on the dataset on the viz, this could be seen as a positive depending on the audience, however this is not suitable for all viewers. I found myself being redirected to different web pages when clicking through the viz.
The colours used are very aggressive, and there isn't a colour legend, so unless we select different points, it isn't very clear to know what they are representing and the viz is pretty overwhelming
Although the author has included definitions / descriptions the workbook is an information overload and isn't accessible for a wider audience.
After looking through the data set, there are many ways that this can be simplified and be suitable for more viewers.
