This week, we are being taken back to basics with Tableau Desktop – which I have to admit I’m happy about (I haven’t really had much Tableau time after my application as I had to give my laptop back to my old work place – it did belong to them so it makes sense)
We had a play around with a few chart types, formatting, filtering, grouping and sets. I’m quite familiar with most of these, however sets is something that I haven't done as much work with.
I’ve put together a little tutorial on creating and combing sets using Sample – Superstore data.
We began by creating a scatter plot using the Sales in the rows column, Profit ratio in the columns and adding Country, State and Postal code to detail.

We then filtered by Region and Ship mode – (remembering to add both to context) and created 2 sets of the ‘Top 10 Postal codes by Sales’ and ‘Top 10 Postal codes by Profit Ratio’

When adding these both to colour we are showed which are 'in' one set but 'out' the other, 'out, out' and so on.

But as we’ve used the same dimension for both sets, we’re able to create a combined set to see which are just ‘in’ or ‘out’ both sets combined.
We select both sets to create a combined set

And then drag this onto the marks card for colour.
