Dashboard Week Day 3

In the final day of dashboard week we were asked to create a well formatted dashboard using ........data. The data was on..........

The data prep for this data was.........

My initial plan was to figure out the questions I wanted to answer with my dashboard and what fields I needed. I then thought about what the most effective charts would be to answer my questions. After creating the charts I thought about my dashboard design and the interactivity of my dashboard. Although today we didn't have to create such an insightful dashboard, I still did struggle with the time constraint as we only had 2:30hrs. Using my learnings from yesterday, I wanted to improve the formatting of my dashboard. Given that this was the focus of today's dashboard, I wanted to spend some more time on the design and template along with finer details such as grid lines and padding.

My challenge today was completing all the work within a shorter time limit, however I had been able to practise managing my time throughout the week so felt more competent doing it today. Today I learned how to make an effective dashboard in a short time and had time to think of different design ideas which could be useful to clients as I can give them some more options. My intention was to make 2 different style dashboards however due to time I was unable to complete both so I created a template for the one I didn't use which I have included below. I decided against this one as I felt that it was less intuitive to use and didn't have a proper flow but thought it could be a possible option based on some other dashboards I had seen on tableau public which I used for some inspiration.

I really enjoyed dashboard week and felt that I learned a lot. I know that I can make dashboards and analyse data but doing this with the added time pressure was a welcome challenge and I feel has really helped me feel ready for my placement. I'd say the part I wasn't too fond of was creating the dashboards, uploading them and presenting them as I didn't feel that they were my best work and didn't show the trainers how much they had helped and taught me.

I think I realised that I have a lot to work in particular time management, dashboard formatting and data prep so hopefully I can work a bit more on this in my extra time outside of placements so I can perform my best. In terms of what went well, I managed to write some useful reflective blogs which will hopefully help me track my progress and learnings during my time at TIL.
