Welcome to my first blog post! With this and future posts, I aim to provide informative and entertaining content for anyone who's interested or curious. At least, that's the plan for now. You will be able to follow along with me each week as I post about my progress, challenges and thoughts.
How It All Started
In my previous roles, I have already worked with data, but rarely at a deeper level. As a Business Development Manager, I was responsible for analyzing daily revenue, expenses, and profits to create forecasts and plans for the upcoming days. Despite numerous optimizations, I quickly reached my limits with Excel and needed for a tool that would let me optimize my process and visualize datasets.
Rome Wasn't Built in a Day
My application to Data School started pretty casually. I had to create a dashboard using a dataset of my choice. Download Tableau, done, and go! Of course, the start wasn't quite that smooth, but after just a few attempts, I was amazed by the freedom in visualization possibilities. However, I felt as free as I was lost.
With Romina's feedback, my work found new direction, and I could focus not just on the technical creation of dashboards but also on interpretation, which I specially enjoyed. As a former PR consultant and someone who loves good communication, I've always cared about creating clear information with a core message. So while I found the application phase challenging, I thoroughly enjoyed working on the project. Above all, one thing became clear: I really loved working with data.
The First Week
After the Data School acceptance, things finally kicked off on December 2nd, 2024! Right before Data School began, I felt a mix of worry and nervousness, which disappeared after just a few moments. The Data School team's welcome was super friendly and I found my new classmates very likeable. Since we all come from different backgrounds, I'm already excited to see how we will develop and especially how we can support and complement each other.
I also thought it was cool that the graduates from the previous cohort - Maria, Davy, and Niklas - occasionally visited us and made us feel like we could always look for support. I'll definitely take that offer in the future 🙂.
In short: The first week was awesome, and I can't wait to share my progress in this blog!
