Week 2 Project: Applying Viz Best Practice for #MakeoverMonday 2021/W19

The original visualization is about the 1GB of Mobile Data Cost of 155 countries.

My view on the original chart:

First of all, the two small boxes that highlight the top 5 most expensive and the bottom 5 least expensive countries in the chart are informative and it is definitely something to be highlighted. And I think the top 3 most expensive really stand out from the rest but unfortunately the rest of the chart is too crowded and the bottom countries are basically unrecognizable. It is also very hard to distinguish the price differences between the countries with different sizes of the circle.

What to keep and what to improve?

To keep:

The highlight for the top and bottom countries

To improve:

  1. Make the price differences readable at first glance
  2. Leave enough space in the chart
  3. Add interactivity to allow user to customize the number of countries to be included and include the continent of each country
  4. Use two colour to highlight the top & bottom countries
  5. Use tooltip to show the actual price value
