Presentation tips

Friday marked the end of Week 1 of the Data School for DS43. On this day, we were tasked with presenting how we would prepare the dataset allocated to us.

We used excalidraw to showcase the steps we would take to prepare the data for analysis, considering which questions we might want to answer from it. My dataset was on the attendance of various Tableau Conferences. I thought I may have to answer questions such as whether online or in person conferences had higher attendance and which type of session was most popular.

Following our first presentations at the Data School, we received the following feedback:

  • Introduce yourself to the audience
  • Speak to the audience
  • Enunciate
  • Prepare before beginning the presentation (e.g set up the screen, practise speaking through the topics)
  • Don’t move too quickly between things on the screen
  • Ensure annotations on the screen are clear to the audience
  • Don't speak too quickly
