After Monday’s accessibility training, it’s time for the true beginning of dashboard week! DS39 won’t know what topic they’ll be covering each day or which data skills they’ll need to embrace. Luckily they’ve had 4 months of training to draw from! Some general rules that will apply each day unless otherwise stated:
- They must work independently
- They must plan their work
- They must create a sketch of their dashboard and show this during their presentation
- The dashboard they create must be uploaded to Tableau Public
- They must write a blog post detailing their work throughout the day
- At 3.30pm, they will present their data prep, sketch and viz
Today DS39 will be working with IMDb data. An additional requirement for today will be to prepare their data using Tableau Prep only. Though they’ll need to pay attention to the fact that:
“Each dataset is contained in a gzipped, tab-separated-values (TSV) formatted file in the UTF-8 character set”
and work out how to get it into a Tableau Prep friendly format.
