My data school training journey began with an action packed day learning the basics of Alteryx hosted by the one and only Lorna Brown. Personally I felt there was a daunting feeling towards learning Alteryx, with no inclusion in the application process it was something I’d never had exposure to. Combining this with seeing glimpses of functions and tools linked together with twisting and overlapping intricate lines, I certainly had my doubts.
In terms of the ‘introduction to Alteryx’ blogs reading this next part may start sounding like Deja Vu but I found myself thoroughly enjoying the functionality of the software. In the early stages I navigated my way through the program with relative ease, thanks to the intuitive tools that were easy to find and use with their drag and drop capabilities.
After working through multiple workflows with our hands being held by Lorna on many steps along the way, we were given a challenge without the same guidance. This allowed us to put into practice the concepts we had learnt earlier that day. It was very beneficial to work alongside your cohort assisting each other on different parts you inevitably got stuck on, but it was also important to not be afraid to ask the teacher for help.

I am bracing myself for tougher times ahead in my Alteryx journey but all in all it was a very successful first day. I’m excited to continue and grow my understanding of Alteryx in the coming weeks and how it’s capabilities will complement those of Tableau.
