A parameter is a workbook variable, such as a numerical value, date, or string, that has the capability to substitute a fixed value within a calculation, filter, or reference line.
For example, let's say you create a calculated field that returns “True” if profit is greater than $100,000 and otherwise returns “False.” You can then replace the constant value of "100000" in the formula with the parameters in Tableau as per the requirements. With the parameter control, you can then dynamically vary the threshold values in their calculation.

Top N Parameters
