My Tableau Certified Data Analyst Exam Experience: A Rollercoaster Day (Part2)

During the exam, I encountered a mix of challenges and lessons that tested my focus and adaptability. In this part, I’ll share how I navigated the test itself and provide my top tips to help you succeed.

During the Exam

Some questions included large images requiring scrolling. A pop-up appeared when I hadn’t scrolled fully, but relying on these reminders isn’t foolproof. In one question, an important part of a picture was hidden at the top and I almost missed it. When I finished all 65 questions, I had 35 minutes left to review flagged ones. Rereading the tougher questions helped me understand them better and I could confidently update my answers.

After the Exam

When leaving, make sure to double-check your belongings. I forgot my watch in the locker and had to return the next day to retrieve it, a minor inconvenience that could have been avoided with a quick final check. The test center will print and stamp your test results, so bring a folder or bag to store it properly.

I received my Tableau Credly badge via the private email linked to my Tableau Public account, which I used to sign up for the exam. This means the Tableau badge was automatically added to my Credly account tied to that email. While this isn’t a big issue, it can lead to confusion if, like many Data Schoolers, you already have a Credly account connected to your work email for other certifications, such as the Alteryx Designer Core Badge. To avoid future complications, I recommend merging your Credly accounts. This way, you receive your badges under a single main account, making them easier to manage.

My Top Tips for Smooth Sailing

  • Prepare Your Travel Plan: Charge your phone, check the route and try to arrive early.
  • Bring Two IDs: It was required but I also don't remember reading about this on the Tableau exam website.
  • Understand Question Formats: Look for the round buttons (single-choice) or checkboxes (multiple-choice).
  • Manage Your Time Wisely: Don’t spend too much time on any single question. Flag it and revisit during the review period.
  • Inspect Images Thoroughly: Scroll through every part of the image to avoid missing hidden details.
  • Merge Your Credly Accounts: If you have multiple Credly accounts (e.g., one tied to work and another to a personal email), merge them to keep all your badges in one place for easier management.

Conclusion

The Tableau Certified Data Analyst exam is a test of both skill and, for me, an even harder test of composure. Despite the initial challenges, I passed and you can too! Just stay calm and follow the tips above. Good luck!
