Friday at The Data School is typically presentation day. Up first was us, DS42. After receiving a project brief in the morning, we had a few hours to work through a dataset and put a plan together of how we’d go ahead and clean and prepare a dataset.
Presentations were scheduled straight after lunch, so a short turnaround for our first presentation.
We had lots of spectators from DS41 and other colleagues in the office who stopped by to watch.
Presentations can always be daunting, but the environment at TIL is very relaxed, and all the feedback received across the cohort will set us in good stead for future weeks and for when we begin to work with clients.
We were followed by DS41 who were presenting their projects back to their clients. This set the scene for things to come for us later on.
It was inspiring to watch the group present so coherently. What stood out most was their ability to present solutions and offer recommendations to industries they have not worked in previously, such as the automotive industries, telecoms, and sports marketing.
This demonstrates that conducting research and building out the user stories helps align your focus when producing work for the client. That way, you continue to provide additional value beyond the initial project brief as you learn more about the industry during the course of the project.
A reason I joined the TiL was to be exposed to different industries, so I’m very much looking forward to this in a few weeks.
That’s a wrap for week 1.
