Tips to survive your first week online

Starting a new job is an exciting time, you want everything to go smoothly to get rid of any first day nerves.

Sadly everything did not go according to plan, I caught Covid-19 Sunday morning and had my first week online. Luckily Luke managed to send over my laptop and other essentials by lunchtime Monday allowing me to follow along during my first week. Here I will outline my top 3 tips for working online.

Tip 1: Always look at your calendar

Once you have your work email set up, always check your calendar as the plan for the day is laid out here with links to all your classes and lets you know your coach for the day.

Tip 2: If possible use 2 Devices/Screens

For Alteryx it was very difficult to follow when switching between the google meet shared screen to then practicing in Alteryx yourself. I ended up falling slightly behind to avoid this I would recommend if possible using a second device for the call as this will require less switching and allow you to follow the examples a lot easier.

Tip 3: If in doubt check Convo out

Convo is the communication platform of The Information Lab and after a quick demonstration by Craig your ready to use the app. Communication is the heartbeat of any company and essential if you want to keep up to date. Whenever I had any queries about where I should be, I would always ask the coach for that class and they would  send a link or answer any questions I had. They were all very friendly and pointed me to where I should be.

Everyone at the company is very friendly and tried their best to keep me up to date and included. I am now Covid free and am enjoying my first week in the office.
