Survey Data
Survey data can be really difficult to work with and require a ton of cleaning if good Survey practices aren't kept. From my experience working with survey data during a client project the most important thing seems to be reducing free input

Bins and Histograms
A histogram is a graph used to represent the frequency distribution of a few data points of one variable. It is a chart type that I commonly think of using and I think is very useful to show the distribution of different demographics. There are two ways I know of to create bins in Tableau

Dashboard Week : Day 3 API's
Day 3's topic is APIs.  Originally we were assigned Breaking Bad but turns out that api isn't working atm and is a very sketchy site atm... So we moved onto Rick & Morty! Link: https://rickandmortyapi.com/ So I went straight into Alteryx

Sorting by time in tableau.
Being able to sort using a date or datetime field in Tableau is a problem I have run into a few times. The intuitive way you would probably expect for it to work is to right click the dimension you want to sort

Nested LOD: Window Max across a dimension but as an LOD
Decided to challenge myself by doing what would be a pretty simple Window_Max as an LOD for a Workout Wednesday. Simplest way to approach this is by starting with a table. In here Linkedin post Lorna says to use an LOD so I went for it with an LOD

Detours in Alteryx
The Detour tool is really useful in Alteryx when you have something you would like to have under one condition and something else to happen with other conditions. Lets take a quick look at Alteryx's example and description for the Detour and Detour end tools

Streaks in Tableau
Calculating streaks in Tableau is something I have had some trouble with. A streak is the number of consecutive times a condition is met. Think of those x days since last y signs you may have seen before like this

Regex: The ways I used regex in Alteryx Challenge 121
Today I learned about regex. Before joining the Data School I had never heard of it before so it was my first time experiencing it. What is Regex?: A regular expression (also called regex or regexp) is a way to describe a pattern

How to create a must include filter.
Today I attempted Workout Wednesday 2021 Week 10. The majority of this workout Wednesday is pretty easy. Easy: โ€ƒ4 BANS (used a lod for % of total), โ€ƒA Chart with Order ID, Customer, Sales, and Quantity. More Difficult: โ€ƒโ€ƒ1. Allow user to filter to orders with specific products specified โ€ƒโ€ƒ2

Generate a random date between 2 dates in Alteryx
Recently during a client project I was given data for when an applicant applied for a position and when they were hired. In order to have a placeholder for the time it takes to interview, I had to generate a random date between them that makes sense. This can all be done with 1 formula tool

Critiquing my application dashboards.
My 1st month of the data school is coming to an end and this seems like a great time to look back at the dashboards I used for my applications and pick them apart. I felt really good about both of them at the time I submitted each and felt like they were the best I've done at that point

From personal project to Data School app.
There was a lot of growth from me learning about Tableau during my Fullstack Academy bootcamp to me submitting my initial application for the data school

Using LODs to calculate percent of total.
If youโ€™re looking at this blog youโ€™re probably like me and love to use interactive filters in your dashboards. It is nice to see how the field you are filtering to compares to the whole while also seeing just the data for what you are filtering for
