Sylvie Imbert

After moving to London from France following her MA in International Business at the University of Provence, Sylvie started a career in the luxury retail industry, combining her aptitude with international sales and customer service as an export manager. Nine years down the line, Sylvie realised that she enjoyed working on pivot tables and building sales reports far too much and set upon starting a new career where she could do just that as her job. This meant learning the basics of SQL in her spare time and discovering Tableau.

Trying to find like-minded people led Sylvie to come across the Data School at a Data Plus Women event, where she was thrilled to not only find other women who shared her passion for data, but also hear lots of praise about the programme at the Data School. Having had so much fun working on Tableau to build her portfolio, Sylvie knew that this new path was the right one for her.

In her spare time, Sylvie loves to travel and discover new cultures, keeps fit by boxing and pretends she is a celebrity chef in her kitchen.

Dashboard Week #3
Third day of Dashboard Week and I have finally learnt from my past mistakes: not wasting time on prepping data that I won’t need. Today we were tasked to visualise survey data from the Harvard Dataverse website on Rural Electricity Demand in India. But it wasn’t going to be that easy, oh no

Tableau Server User Filter
When publishing a workbook on Tableau Server, there might come a time when you would like to show certain data only to the relevant people or hide some sensitive data. For example, you might want your sales team to only be able to see their own sales at an individual level

My first 2 weeks at DS
This is the end of week 2 for DS16 and a time to reflect on what we have been up to so far as time does seem to go by quickly when you’re having fun with charts and flows

Tips on containers in Tableau dashboard
Are you building a dashboard in Tableau using (fixed) containers? See the tips below to make sure all the elements you drag in are neat and tidy. This doesn’t look very pretty, does it? First of all, let’s make sure each individual inner container are displaying the square in the centre evenly

My expectations from DS
What are our expectations from the Data School (or DS now that we are on first name basis) we were asked this morning. Well, many things: 1. First of, the obvious one, become an expert in Tableau and Alteryx 2
