Robson Hemans-Alexander

Robson joined the Data School after graduating from Cardiff University in 2021 with an Economics degree. Whilst studying statistics within this degree, Robson found his love for data.

Throughout his Data School journey Robson has had the opportunity to work in a variety of sectors & departments such as Medicine, Sales, Marketing, Credit, Gaming, and Higher Education. Within these sectors he also has gained hands on experience with different software/skills. These include SQL, Alteryx, Tableau, Tableau Server & Python.

Robson is currently working with Betway as a Tableau Server admin. The goal of this placement was to both organise the server and improve server performance. To do this, Robson has created multiple dashboards using the Postgres DB & Logs to automatically monitor performance and trigger alerts to any actions slowing down the server. He has built these reports with long term automation in mind by creating Alteryx workflows and Python scripts to automate server maintenance in the future, such as deleting old data sources and workbooks. Finally, he has implemented different forms of governance to prevent the server becoming disorganised again.

Other projects Robson has completed:

  • Automating companywide reporting with SQL & Tableau.
  • Conversion of manual excel reporting to automatic workflows via Alteryx using Snowflake as a database.
  • Converting and remodelling SQL queries to Alteryx.
  • Upskilled multiple analytical departments in Alteryx, Tableau & Snowflake.
  • Created 50+ bespoke Tableau Dashboards for clients.

Robson has also completed the following extra training/certifications:

  • Alteryx Advance Certification.
  • Tableau Data Analyst Certification.
  • SnowPro Core Certification.
  • 200+ Alteryx Challenges completed.
  • 100+ Preppin' Data Challenges completed in SQL.

Moving forward Robson is still developing his skills each day and has started to branch out into more challenging endeavours such as Python. In his spare time Robson enjoys running, table tennis & chess!
