Nathan Purvis

Nathan graduated from Northumbria University with a BSc in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and an MSc in Forensic Science. Following his studies, he worked within the field of forensic toxicology for a couple of years. However, after becoming increasingly frustrated with the industry, he decided to explore a career change. He placed a particular emphasis on future-facing industries, where he could still apply his enjoyment of analysis and problem-solving, such as finance, technology, data & business. Soon after starting the search, Nathan stumbled upon The Data School and began to teach himself how to use Tableau in his spare time... the rest is history!

So far, Nathan has completed his 4 months of training and 3 placements, with a leading commercial real estate company, an airline cargo company and global investment bank. These placements have allowed him to acquire extensive experience using SQL in various database management systems, including Snowflake, Oracle and Microsoft SQL server, leading to a proficiency in data preparation and manipulation. Nathan has also spent much of this time building commercial reports in Tableau Desktop, as well as using Tableau Server to host dashboards and manage content & user permissions. Projects and reports range from tracking extra revenue of business partnerships, through to parsing and analysis of API & website session logs. Furthermore, Nathan actively contributes to the Alteryx community, suggesting product ideas, creating macros, writing educational blogs and offering more than 700 solutions to user problems, earning him recognition as a top contributor.
