Martin comes from a diverse career spanning education and graphic design, where he developed a passion for using data, coding and design to solve complex problems.
His journey into analytics began while studying Python alongside teaching English in Taiwan. He built Python tools that enabled educators and staff to analyse and track student performance, from individual students to comparisons across classes.
At The Information Lab, Martin has been working with Tableau, Alteryx, SQL, and Python across a range of projects. He led a team of six on a project for an insurance company, coordinating work and ensuring the final outputs were clear, accurate, and aligned with what the client needed. He enjoys all aspects of working with data, from engineering and preparation to dashboard design, with a focus on clarity, usability, and helping users get to the key insights quickly. Thanks to his experience in education, he also led a public training session on dashboard design as part of a Tableau training day run by The Information Lab.
Martin has also been working with Snowflake Cortex AI, building an automated data pipeline that ingests data from an external API into Snowflake and a Formula 1 chatbot that allows users to query historical race data in natural language. These projects involved working with Cortex Code, Cortex Agents, semantic models, custom tools, APIs, and Streamlit applications.
Outside of work, Martin enjoys baseball data analytics and writes code to play his own version of “Moneyball,” applying his insights to his fantasy baseball team. He is also a passionate fan of the sport, particularly Taiwanese baseball. His other interests revolve around music, including collecting vinyl records and synthesisers.
