Louis Phipps

Louis' passion and enthusiasm for data analytics kickstarted during his undergraduate studies, completing a BSc Psychology with International Study from The University of Manchester.

During his third year he undertook an international study program in Massachusetts with a focus on marketing, spurring his interest in business analytics. Originally using SPSS software for statistical testing, Louis wanted to broaden his knowledge of data analytics by learning new software and skills. This led to him joining an IT consultancy upon graduating university, where he used data to solve problems within the financial team of a client in the renewable energy sector. Wanting to further develop his technical arsenal and pay more attention to his creative ability, Louis started focusing on his data visualization skills and found The Information Lab.

Since joining the Data School, Louis has been developing the essential skills to become a successful consultant. He has gained invaluable experience across Tableau, PowerBI, Alteryx, and has undertook projects in varying industries:

  • Was project manager for a project with a professional football club operating in the EFL League One.

  • Created dashboards for a company in the sports industry - specifically working with professional snowsport athlete data.

  • Delivered a Tableau training session to clients of TIL and the public, specifically on how to use sets and parameters.

Louis' main hobbies include playing football and participating in snow sports, being an avid skier and snowboarder. Staying active through these hobbies has made sports analytics a particular interest of his over the years.
