Lauren Halliwell

Lauren graduated with a masters in Mathematics from the University of Hull, where she fell in love with data science after her Topics of Data Science module in 4th year. The ability to use data to make predictions or better understand the past, while being able to use her creativity skills was very appealing.

Previously having gained knowledge of data science in Python, she is excited to see what Tableau and Alteryx add to the world of data while at The Information Lab.

In her spare time Lauren loves to spend time with animals, particularly riding horses and drawing and painting.

Web Scraping in Alteryx
Have you ever looked at a website and thought, how I would love to use their data. You could sit there with an excel spreadsheet writing/copying and pasting lines and lines of strings for hours to get a few hundred rows of data..

From Python to Alteryx: While Loops
In Python, while loops can hold two separate functions. They can iterate until you've reached a certain number of iterations (while i<5: function() i+=1), or iterate until a True value is reached (while x<5: function()). In Alteryx, you can still do both, in a manner that is simple to understand

What is blending?
If you have used Tableau for some time, you should know joins, relationships, unions...but do you know blending. Blending is the ability to join data from multiple data sources, within the sheets themselves

Alteryx Core - How to Pass
For a free online exam, that you can resit as many times as you would like, the Alteryx core exam is not as easy as you would think. The questions can be tricky, understanding what the question is asking is key, as well as making sure to keep track of your time

Worried about the application process? Don't be
Having previously used Tableau, purely to build graphs, I thought that an application process created to show your data visualization skills would be a breeze. How wrong I was. Tableau has a lot more to show than I originally thought, but none of it is difficult to learn
