Débora studied Computer Engineering in Portugal while building her own business of music for special occasions. Wanting a bigger challenge, she decided to come to the UK to complete a MSc in Computer Science. There was where she got to know the power of Tableau. After hearing many people talk about Data Visualisation passionately and experiencing it herself using Tableau, she found the Data School and understood how it would be the best place to develop her skills and stimulate her creativity every day. Now in the Data School, the challenge she was looking for has finally begin.

My Favourites of the Data School, without any order
I am not making a great introduction on this one because I don’t really feel
like getting emotional. Our time is coming to an end. Bla Bla Bla. Let me just
rewind some of the great things that happened during these 4 months.

How to let the user know how to interact
One of the best things about Tableau is how the user can interact with
dashboards and create a view totally personalised for their needs. However, if
the user is not aware of how to do it, it all goes to waste.
In this blog post I will cover some of the ways you can use to help with that

Can you allow users to choose what they want to sort by?
Yes you can! How? With a parameter.
The Example
Let’s use the Superstore datasource for this example. Our use case will be to
create a view showing Profit Ratio, Sales and Profit per Order and allowing the
user to choose which of these they want the Orders to be sorted by

Some of the words that I've learnt at the Data School
One of the things that I am taking out of The Data School, apart from the
Tableau and Alteryx knowledge, is soft-skills:
* How to Present
* How to communicate
* How to deal with clients
* How to ask for help
* And so on and so on

How to add icons to your drill down set action
I really like small details, so adding an icon to imply that something is
clickable is kind of obligatory for me.
In this blog post, I will only cover how to add the icons, assuming that you
already have your drill-down set action ready.
I will be using our dear Superstore data as an example

Dashboard Week Story Day 3? - How have people been misspelling my name?
I am so confused with our Dashboard Week. It was not a Dashboard Week (we only
got 2 days in the official week and 1 today), the first day was more of an
Alteryx Day, the second day was actually a Dashboard day, and today it was a
Story day

Dashboard Week - Day 2
The task:
Read it in here:
/andy-kriebel/avengers/ [https://www.thedataschool.co.uk/andy-kriebel/avengers/]
We were also told that the final result should be in the format of an
infographic and that we had to show our drawings to Andy before moving on to
Tableau

Dashboard Week, Workflow Day 1
Well, I now have 20 minutes to describe how terrible today went, so let’s keep
it simple:
The task:
Read it in here, Andy’s blog post [https://www.thedataschool.co.uk/andy-kriebel/nhs-trusts/].
The “why did I struggle?”
The data was just too much

Quick Tip - Where is Alteryx wasting your time?
In this blog post, I will guide you through how you can inspect your Alteryx
Workflow and find out which is the tool that is wasting your time the most.
Initially you would think that you can rely on the little percentages beside
each tool, right? Well, you can’t. I am sorry

These 3-hour projects...
If you are familiar with the Data School then you probably already know what I
am talking about. Every Friday we are challenged with a project presentation –
either a client one (and in that case we’ve worked on that through the week) or
a from-Andy-or-Carl’s-evil-imagination one

Makeover Monday this Week - 2019W12
As this week’s Makeover Monday’s dataset was pretty simple, I decided to focus
on some little tricks that I had not tried before and really wanted to. Tooltips
with “dynamic colours” and an info button with more detailed information are
some of them

Quick Tip on dragging things around.
I have recently written a blog post on why Tableau assigns the colour blue to
some fields and green to others [http://
/debora-contente/why-are-they-blue-or-green/]. I would recommend you to read it
after continuing on this one. If you have read it already, just continue
reading.

The process of Building a Vizz
The challenge
Last week, on Friday, the project we were challenged with was building a Vizz
with a dataset from Exasol [https://www.exasol.com/en/dataviz/]. Nothing
particularly new until here (apart from the fact that all datasets were
ginormous!)
