Amelia Holland

Amelia's love for data analysis began when she took part in the FastFutures program, through which she began to understand that data could tell a story and make big impacts in all sectors of the working world. After joining the Data School, her interests expanded to data transformation and preparing data so that it can be easily used for visualisation and analysis. Throughout her time at the data school, Amelia has worked with a variety of companies, varying from wealth management firms, retail, railways to sports teams. She has consistently demonstrated her ability to understand and meet client needs, as well as adapt to the different working environments she has experienced.

Prior to the Data School, Amelia graduated from the University of Sussex with a BSc in Mathematics. After graduating, she travelled to China to teach EFL. When she returned to the UK, she completed her teacher training, specialising in Mathematics. Although she enjoyed teaching, her passion was in data and analytics, so she decided to pursue a career in this. The Data School offered a fantastic opportunity to blend her two loves - teaching and data.

Proof that Sum([Profit])/Sum([Sales]) ≠ [Profit]/[Sales]
A mistake I made when I first started using tableau was just using non-aggregated fields to do ratio calculations. I did not understand the way Tableau was calculating my data and therefore had no clue that the data that was then being displayed in my canvas was completely wrong

PIVOT! A Tableau Prep Guide
A very basic definition of pivoting data is taking rows and making them into their own columns (and vice-versa). For example, take this data set: For each London branch that sells cashew nuts we have an individual record for each category (weight, quantity sold and price)
