Aj Basnet

Aj demonstrated his interest in data analytics during his undergraduate degree in Economics, however it was only during this time working as business consultant in Kenya, where he realised he had developed a passion for the subject. Through correct data visualization, he realised how data can be used to analysed different trends which can be used to make key business decisions. After discovering Tableau he played around with it everyday for a month before applying for The Data School.

After travelling in his gap year, he started Youth-4-Youth Nepal a youth-led microfinance initiative. Outside data analytics, he enjoys taking part in different sports and socialising.

I know how cliché it sounds but the last four months really does feel like a blur. I remember meeting my fellow DS6ers for the first time in the lobby like it was just yesterday

Switzerland - Public transportation
This was definitely one the toughest day of not only the dashboard week but also the data school generally. Our task for today was to get public transportation data of a city (or a country in my case) and make a viz out of it

Making mistakes and Wine menus
It is only the second day of the dashboard week and the pressure of daily project turnover has been both fun and demanding. The limitation on time means we have to make decisions on the contents of our dashboard relatively early on

Learning Alteryx without a Computer
Like most first time users of Tableau, I was marvelously impressed with how easy it is to make vizs, analyze data and of course using mapping feature. However, the more I used it more I realized it only works properly if data is formatted properly

Week 2 - EVERYTHING is a learning experience
This was only our second week in the Data School and we already got our first client – Kingston University. This just exemplifies how quickly we learn and implement new skills in the DS. For the project, we had to  analyze and visualize their internal student satisfaction survey

BACK to basics
I will be the first to admit when I was first using Tableau, I just wanted to learn enough to produce a ‘good enough’ data visualization to get me a position in the DS

Expectations
When I first learned about The Information Lab and The Data School (DS), admittedly I had not even heard about Tableau. I only knew that I wanted to learn more about data analytics and visualisations
