How to add an Academy Award to an Oscar-nominated Film

Hi!

One of my biggest interest is Cinema, especially Italian movies.

I love to follow Oscars, BAFTA, Golden Globes, Festival of Cannes, Venezia and so on.

For this Oscars I was really inspired by one of the Viz of the day of this month about The Beatles and I want to make something similar.

But what story ? Best directors? Best Actors? Best Actresses?  Too many options!!

And then I got the right idea: most Oscar-Nominated people in Academy History!

From the IMDB website I collected the data for Maryl Streep, Jack Nicholson, Katharine Hepburn, Bette Davis and Laurence Olivier.

My dataset was pretty straight-forward:

Dataset

Actor/actress, nominated movies, IMDB rating, Year, tot nominations, 1 if the film won an Oscar, the Role (leading or supporting) and so on.

OSCAR GIANTS

I want to have the Academy Award on the top of the nominated movie if the film won an Oscar.

How do you do that?

On columns I put the nominated movies (sorted by the year) and on rows the IMDB rating (to size the films). I made a dual axis and added 0.5 to the second one (and synchronize it).

At the end I sized the Academy Awards until I got the perfect match:

Dual Axis

Hope you like it!

See you soon!
