Distant Pasts and Hopeful Presents

The transition from University to the big city is a well-trodden path. Yet, this seemingly carbon copied process of graduate turned city dweller remains a very personal enterprise.

From moving in with friends to starting a corporate job, every aspect of the journey up to this point only differs by matter of one’s name. Why then, individually, do we feel such pressure and imposter-like-syndrome? It is not as if we are in a position, now, that we can’t talk to colleagues, of whom at the very least are also experiencing the same professional pressures as ourselves. Everyone at some stage has experienced this feeling of being undeserving, out of place and fraudulent at some stage throughout their lives.

While this apprehension , by design, may feel unnatural and uncomfortable it may be the sign that progress is being made. Our bodies, anatomically and physiologically, are unaccustomed to this fear of failure to the extent that one might even call it part an extension of the human condition.

Therefore have faith! Don’t fight it, don’t be harsh on yourself… consider a good thing, it’ll help you prepare for what’s come.
