At the beginning of our cohort, every one of our team picked a book from the data school library to read. I chose the book ‘Data Science for Business' by Foster Provost & Tom Fawcett. I want in this blog to give a short summary of what I have learned from this book in general.
From the Book ‘Data Science for Business’, one can build a solid foundation in understanding how data science can be used to enhance business decisions. It helped me setting a critical mindset that focuses on questioning data sets, understanding potential analysis, and ensuring the data-driven solutions that fulfill business goals.
An important takeaway from the book is understanding and defining the problem. Before jumping to data analysis, it is very important to give more time to defining and understanding the problem by ensuring that the right data is collected, and that results are readable and understandable for people who have a business mindset.
The book also highlights the importance of the connection and collaboration between data scientists and business professionals. It suggests that the most effective solutions and analysis come from teams where both data scientists and business professionals can work well together.
In addition, the book also points out the ethical side in data science. Nowadays, it is very important to take the ethical matter under consideration for the importance of data relating to privacy concerns and freedom issues. I found that the argument the book makes about this subject is very interesting.
In conclusion, what I learned from the book ‘Data Science for Business’ is how to create the way towards making data-driven solutions of modern business, emphasizing the importance of analytical thinking, collaboration, and ethical considerations in exploring the power of data.
