Dashboard Week Highlights: From Movie Magic to Personal CV and Graduation from Training Phase
This week’s dashboard design marathon provided a wealth of learning opportunities and hands-on experience with Tableau, PowerBi, Tableau Prep, Alteryx and Figma. Here’s a comprehensive summary of the key insights and technical highlights:
Key Learnings from Dashboard Design Week (Day 1 to Day 5)
- Dynamic Dashboards: For the Day 1 challenge comparing actors, I crafted a visually engaging dashboard by integrating vibrant imagery and thematic elements. Using Figma for background design and Tableau for data visualization enhanced the storytelling aspect and made the data more compelling.
- Template Design: I developed grey-themed templates on Day 2 for Tableau and Power BI, focusing on simplicity and customization. The neutral grey base facilitated quicker design adaptations and emphasized data clarity, contributing to a professional and consistent look across different projects.
- Interactive CV Dashboard: Transforming my CV on Day 3 into an interactive Tableau dashboard was an engaging project. By visualizing Work Experience, Education, and Skills through pie charts and bubble charts, I created a comprehensive and visually appealing representation of my career journey.
- Thematic Data Exploration: The Spotify data analysis on Day 4 was approached through a creative lens inspired by The Matrix. Sorting and ranking artist names alphabetically while integrating thematic visuals. Focusing on MVPs (Minimum Viable Products) enabled rapid development and iterative refinement. This approach proved effective for addressing design and functionality issues promptly, ensuring progress and enhancement based on real feedback.
- On the final day Day 5, we had the opportunity to work on a personal project that remains unpublished. This provided a valuable chance to apply our skills in a more individualized context and explore new ideas.
Highlight of the Week
The CV dashboard project was the highlight of the week. It allowed me to creatively showcase my career and skills in a visually engaging manner, demonstrating my proficiency with Tableau.
Looking Forward
I will miss the training phase, which offered a concentrated burst of learning and development. This intensive week was a fantastic opportunity to refine my dashboard design skills and explore new techniques. But I am also looking forward to the various placements!
