Preparing for Alteryx Designer Core Certification

Time management is the key to pass the Alteryx Designer Core Certification exam. When I took the exam, it didn’t go well. I was unable to clear it.  The biggest challenge, I encountered was Time, I could not attempt all the questions just in time. I hardly attended 65 questions out of 80.

Anyway, I passed the exam on second attempt. I have some tips/tricks to share.

The perfect roadmap for preparation would be:

·       Interactive lessons on Alteryx Community

·       Using the Alteryx prep guide and checking the tools once you have mastered them.

·       Read Tool Mastery

·       Practicing the weekly challenges.

·       Take the practice exam

These things are enough to clear the examination.

Evan though I was warned, this exam is not easy, and time is very essential. I did some mistakes.

Therefore, I have some Do’s and Don’ts

Do’s :

· Make notes which are easily accessible during the exam

· Keep the Alteryx help pages open for example:  file type/ data types/ string function for formula tools

· Have two windows(screen) open, one for exam and second for google and Alteryx.

· Read the question properly, due to time constraint you may loose key part of the question

· If you don’t know a question, open a Google tab and quickly type a search in and then move on.

· My strategy was to go through the 1-point questions as efficiently as possible

· On the questions where they show you a screenshot of the input and then ask you what the output should be, quickly do a text input into Alteryx and use that to find the answers. (don’t waste much time)

· Keep an eye on clock

If you are still failing the exam, keep the questions (download files) and practice them in between attempts. Save any workflows you build out as part of one exam attempt, so you have them for practice and maybe to reference in another exam attempt. If this section continues being a struggle for you, work through more of the weekly challenges to get more familiar with solving problems in Alteryx

Don’ts

· Don’t be anxious or nervous keep calm

· Do not hurry in reading the question give a few seconds to soak the information

· Don’t verify all the question you have answered if any doubts just flag it and revisit later

· If you are spending more than five to seven minutes on any question, then stop and read it, rethink, or revisit the question later. Mostly, you are over complicating the question.

· Limit your use of tools which are out of the core prep guide you might be confused with the question

· Don’t keep all practical questions for the end

· Don’t use (or use it very efficiently) Text input for each and every question where you have to select the output as an answer, it is very time consuming.

Try to be efficient and effective. Good luck!
