For our project this week, my cohort have been tasked with analyzing a previously published viz from Makeover Monday. I have selected a viz with a subject matter very close to my heart (unfortunately) looking at Arsenal's worst ever Premier League start towards the beginning of this season. The viz can be found here: https://data.world/makeovermonday/2020w51-arsenals-worst-ever-premier-league-start
What works well
- When looking at each individual graph, it is easy to see how the 2020/21 season's first games have been worse than previous years.
- There are not too many colors and they have been used effectively for highlighting the most recent season.
- It is overall a clean viz to look at.
What could be improved
- The reference lines on each chart are unlabeled - I would guess they depict an average but there's no way to know for sure.
- There are no mark labels or gridlines making it hard to see the value of any bars.
- Since the reference line is there, it would be interesting to know the difference between Arsenal's average performance and their current season to see how far below par they performed.
Here's how I've visualized the same dataset based on these thoughts: https://public.tableau.com/app/profile/sam.search/viz/MakeoverMonday2020Week51/ArsenalhadtheirworststarttoaPremierLeagueseasonever?publish=yes
