What I hope to get out of the data school

by James Fox

When I first heard of The Data School I instantly imagined myself as Hans Rosling presenting his incredible TED talk – using data visualization to illuminate a story in a way that had never been done before. (Go check it out if you haven’t already!)

Though the expectation to present a 13 million + view TED talk may be somewhat distant – with a week under my belt at The Data School I now have more realistic expectations

So what do I expect from The Data School and how does it compare?

1 . Be given an opportunity to “learn by doing”.

So far, my expectations have been blown away by the structure of teaching, with a mix of taught and “try-it-yourself” learning methods.

2. A supportive and motivating environment.

The team here is ready to help anyone who needs it, with communication being truly open and honest.

3. Exposure to how data is used within businesses.

With my placement in 4 months I have no idea what I’ll be doing or who it will be with, so I’ll wait and see.

4. Make new friends.

The Data School has socials, fitness sessions, group learning and more that makes meeting new people and developing friendships almost impossible not to do.
