DS27 Training Blog - Week 9

Monday: we started as usual with our kick-off call; the project this week was an internal one focused on content creation. The team was split between creating 5-minute ‘How To’ videos for TIL's YouTube channel, and creating Tableau Christmas cards. I was project manager, so was focused on organising the team, communicating with the client, being a general sounding board for any ideas/challenges, and helping to solve any issues the team was facing (or ideally anticipating these issues ahead of time so they could be avoided). In the afternoon we had a spatial session with Andy; we mapped airline routes, bus routes and New York rat sightings using both Alteryx and Tableau, and tried out different ways of mapping such as creating hexbins.

Tuesday: most of the day was spent on project time, including check-in calls with our client. We finished the day with Diversity and Inclusion training with Claire.

Wednesday: in the morning we had a session on Quality Assurance with PGB, covering different ways we should check and validate our work. This is really important; not only to avoid decisions being made based on inaccurate data, but also to maintain clients’ trust in the tools. There is no excuse for not doing Quality Assurance! We then had more project time, and the team started to finalise their content creation.

Thursday: we had a Stats 101 session with Robbin, covering everything from basic descriptive statistics to predictive modelling in Alteryx, all of which will be useful in helping to deepen our analyses.

Friday: we used the morning to finalise the deliverables for our project, and practice our presentation. We then had the final presentation in the afternoon, which went really well! We used the end of the day to catch up on our blog writing.
