My thoughts of the Data School

by Giorgia Umani

The first two days are gone at the Data School and I already feel like I’ve learned a lot. Before applying for the job, I was not too familiar with what Tableau was and what this powerful tool could do, but I found myself being obsessed after the first few hours. Being very keen on learning the software I was lucky to, to better yet, good enough to get a spot in DS7 and being part of this amazing adventure.

On my first day I met the team I am going to work with for the next four months and I have to say that I am surrounded by smart people who (most of them) have had some experience with the software. Hence, one of my first difficulties was probably the Makeover Monday where you have one hour to work on a dataset and present it. After what felt like 10 minutes, I was the first one to present the dashboard. The task was challenging, but also entertaining and very educational.

There is honestly so much to learn about the software but I am lucky enough to say that the Data School and the Information Lab help their students in the best way. From Andy’s and the DS7 support to the Convo app (sort of a Company Facebook) the Tableau community is ready to answer any questions almost immediately. I really feel like this is a great opportunity to learn from the very best experts in the field. Plus, the school helps you to improve important skills such as live presentation, engaging with the client and of course, blogging!

I can honestly say that although it is only day two of my journey, my expectations are fulfilled. I am very excited to start a career doing what I love, and learning more both about Tableau and Alteryx while being part of a great community.
